In fact, the revenue earned is slightly lower than the income earned by the government from mining royalty, which was Rs 342 crore in 2016-17.
The total earnings of Rs 334 crore received by the government from the casinos make it a powerful industry for all reasons. In addition to this, in April 2018, Goa government has hiked the license fee of casino by 45%. Goa has seen a 56 percent rise in the income from casinos with the state receiving revenue of Rs 334 crore in 2016-17.
The first ever casino in Goa was an offshore one in the Mandovi River, built during the year 1999. Gambling falls under state government legislation and also contributes a huge chunk of money to the state government revenue. Goa is one of the few states (apart from Sikkim, Daman, and Diu) in India where Gambling is legal.
